Product Care Information
Usage: Annual, pot plants, patio pots, window boxes, bedding and landscape.
Sow Time: December-January.
Sowing Method: 1-2 seeds per plug.
Germination: Germination occurs in 7-14 days at 75-78 °F (23-25 °C). Sow seeds in a fine media with good water retention and drainage. Consistent moisture levels are critical for uniform germination. Humidity levels greater than 95% and a medium pH between 5.5 and 6.5 are critical. Do not cover the seed because it requires light to germinate. Supplemental 24-hour assimilation light at this point will boost germination, shorten crop time, and improve plug quality.
Growing On: Place plugs in finished containers with well-drained medium and a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Maintain a day length of more than 14 hours. Continued supplementary lighting will enhance plant quality and save crop time. Growing temperatures ranging from 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (18 to 22 degrees Celsius) promote growth and flowering. Fertilize with 150-250 ppm nitrogen in a well-balanced composition.
Media: Use a well-drained, growing substrate with 15-30% clay, 0-20% perlite, 1-2 kg/m2 of full balanced fertilizer, iron-chelate, micronutrients. pH ranges between 5.5 and 6.2, with optimal growth at 16-18°C. Temperature can be reduced to 16 degrees Celsius 10 days before sale. Temperatures below 14°C will cause tuber development and crop delay.
Temperature: Grow at 16-18 °C. 10 days before selling the temperatures can be decreased to 16 °C. Temperatures below 14 °C will result in tuber formation and crop delay.
Fertilization: Moderate fertilization is required. Fertilize weekly with 150-200 ppm nitrogen from a comprehensive, potassium-balanced fertilizer (N: K20 ratio: 1:1,5). Maintain low ammonium. Keep ammonium levels low; else, the roots will be harmed. At high nitrogen levels, the leaf can grow exceedingly large. Avoid pH levels above 6.5, as they promote iron deficiency. If chlorosis persists, use chelated iron. To prevent magnesium deficiency, apply magnesium sulphate (0,025%) 1-2 times per day. Additional potassium fertilization promotes compact plant development and produces dark green leaves. Avoid high soluble salt levels in the soil.
